I promised to share a few reflections on the talks we are hearing at the UISG plenary sessions. On Monday afternoon we had our first presentation from Sr Teresa Maya on the subject of a vision for the future of Religious Life.

There were two talks given today at the Plenary that focused on the care of the planet.The first talk is titled "Sowers of Prophetic Hope for the Planet. The Responsibilities of Religious Life: A Biblical Perspective."

My prayer this morning took me back to the opening prayer of the conference which reminded us that as women religious we are called to go out to the whole world because like the women before the empty tomb we are called to give hope to the world.

I wish all of you could be here to celebrate this wonderful experience of being part of the universal church. We are about 900 Leaders from many countries and cultures and speak in many languages but in the Risen Lord we are one body, one church.

The time for words is over, so forgive the ones I am using here! We need a new way of witnessing that will manifest our values, that will be more intelligible and accessible for our time. Gospel news needs to be told in art, symbol and gesture.

Greetings again from a sunny but cold and windy Rome. I have just come back from Mass at the local church. There are five to choose from on a Sunday as there seems to be no shortage of priests. Sr Brenda, a Sister of Nazareth, just arrived and I am waiting to meet up with some of the others.

Sister Maureen is currently in Rome, Italy attending the XXI Plenary of the International Union of Superiors General which will be held for 6 – 10 May. The theme is "Sowers of Prophetic Hope". Around 850 Superiors General from 80 different countries will participate.

Margaret Henry was born on 15th June 1926, the eldest of six children of James and Elizabeth Henry in Doncaster. She is survived by her two brothers, Martin and Peter and by her three sisters Anne, Eileen and Sheila.

Sister Austin was born on 18th October 1937, the second child of Patrick and Mary Cairnsin Burnopfield, Co.Durham. She was baptised Winifred Mary on 23rd October 1937 at Sacred Heart Church, Byermoor and confirmed on 21st July 1946. She is predeceased by her older sister, Joan, and is survived by her sister, Barbara, and her brother John who lives in Canada.

Congratulations to Sister Patricia Johnson, Sister Veronica O’Brien and Sister Joan O’Gorman who celebrated their Golden Jubilee on 11 February, 2019. May God continue to bless each of them as they continue to serve God’s people in their various ministries. We thank them for the wonderful witness they give to us by their commitment to service to all God’s people.
