Since her appointment in October 2005 as the Justice and Peace and Integrity of Creation Co-ordinator, Sister Isabel Kelly, FMSJ has worked tirelessly to promote awareness about the horrors of human trafficking in today’s society.
In 2006 Sister attended a very informative workshop on human trafficking sponsored by Franciscans International in New York City. She is also an active member of PACE (Parents Against Child Sexual Exploitation), RENATE (Religious in Europe Networking Against Trafficking and Exploitation), and TRAC (Trafficking Raising Awareness and Campaigning).
Education is a key part of Sister Isabel’s work and she generously shares her knowledge with the community, our Associates and many other groups throughout the country. She encourages all to participate in letter writing campaigns as well as alerting us to various programmes and events that highlight the issue of human trafficking.
"Let’s end modern slavery together!"
There are simple ways that everyone can participate in to help end this human tragedy:
"A sense of deep communion with the rest of nature cannot be real if our hearts lack tenderness, compassion and concern for our fellow human beings. It is clearly inconsistent to combat trafficking in endangered species while remaining completely indifferent to human trafficking, unconcerned about the poor, or undertaking to destroy another human being deemed unwanted…Everything is connected. Concern for the environment thus needs to be joined to a sincere love for our fellow human beings and an unwavering commitment to resolving the problems of society." (Pope Francis in Laudato Sí,91)
