Extraordinary Month of Mission: Baptized and Sent

Pope Francis has designated October 2019 as an "Extraordinary Month of Mission" to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Maximum Illud, Pope Benedict XV’s Apostolic Letter that gave a new impetus to the missionary proclamation of the Gospel to all peoples. The Theme is: BAPTIZED AND SENT: THE CHURCH OF CHRIST ON MISSION IN THE WORLD.

Four themes will be explored during the month.

A personal encounter with Jesus Christ living in his Church;
The witness of missionary saints and martyrs;
Missionary charity as a commitment to support the Church’s missionary activity and communities too poor to support themselves, through Missio.
Biblical, catechetical, spiritual and theological formation for mission.

How can we all be missionaries, those who are sent to "bring the Good News of Jesus" to our world today, in the areas in which we live? Some people feel that they do not have enough education or experience to speak about the Gospel message. Others feel that only those with a special missionary calling can do it. Yet, through our baptism, we are all called to share the Gospel by the way we live.

During this month of mission, please pray for all persecuted Christians throughout the world who are witnessing to their faith in very difficult circumstances. Being missionaries is at the heart of our FMSJ vocation and we are particularly grateful to all our benefactors who assist us through their prayers and financial contributions. Together we can make a difference in the world.
