Sisters Elect New Superior General
The sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of St Joseph are rejoicing this week at the election of a new Superior General. The Sisters in the General Chapter (a six-yearly meeting of representatives of the entire congregation) elected Sister Maureen Murphy to her new role during their two-week assembly. Sister Maureen succeeds Sister Joan O’Gorman who had held the position for the last twelve years.
Sister Maureen comes from the Isle of Wight. Before entering the FMSJs, she worked as a hospital administrator. Among other roles after entering community, she did pastoral work in Ecuador and was General Bursar for the Congregation for 18 years.
Members of the General Council were also elected during the Chapter meeting.
Sister Anne Moore – Assistant General & Bursar General
Sister Joan O’Gorman – Secretary General
Sister Teresa Wild – Member of the Council
Sister Joan Kerley – Member of the Council
The General Chapter finished on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul.
Our Sisters have a long association with Salford Diocese and with the work of the Diocese going right back to the founding of our Congregation by Alice Ingham from Rochdale.
